Hayward girls hockey knocks off Superior in double OT to advance to Sectional Final

The third-seeded Hayward Co-op girls hockey team knocked off second seeded Superior 4-3 in double overtime Tuesday at the Superior Ice Arena to earn their spot in the Sectional 1 championship game.

The Spartans scored first in the semifinal with a goal from Emma Ferg on a power play in the first period. Superior led 1-0 through the first two frames, before Hayward would take a 3-2 lead in the third. The Spartans tied it up late in the third 3-3 to force the first overtime, which went scoreless. Late in the second overtime Reese Sheehan scored the game-winner with 2:37 to go for the Hurricanes.

Hayward earns their 13th straight win to improve to 20-5-1 overall this season. They will battle the top-seeded Central Wisconsin Storm (20-4) in the Sectional final Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wessman Arena in Superior. The winner earns a spot in the state tournament. For the full bracket, Click here.
