Grand Rapids Area Lacrosse Coach Critically Injured

A lacrosse coach and soccer official for the Grand Rapids school district is on a ventilator after an accident in Deer River.

The Itasca County Sheriff's department confirmed they responded around 9:30 in the morning on Monday, for a man who had fallen 15-20 feet. They said he was unconscious but breathing, and they brought him to the hospital in Deer River. OSHA is now investigating.

The Grand Rapids schools said they are providing counseling for students. Also, they provided this statement, "All of us at ISD 318 are very saddened to hear of Kirk Watson's tragic accident. Our hearts go out to Kirk's family and to all those touched by his life. Kirk was an excellent role model to young people through his work as a lacrosse coach and soccer official at GRHS."
