The legion team from Lakeview Post 342 is made up of players from Duluth East who reached the section final in early June, but didn't advance to state. Roughly 7 weeks later, they'll get their state shot.

"We are really confident right now and kind of on a hot streak and so, it means a lot to me and it means a lot to all the other guys out here," said third baseman Kyle Doup.

"Being able to join and show people down there what we can actually do and that we can actually play from up north," pitcher Jake Zeman said he's most excited about.

"Just throwing strikes is super important for us,"added left fielder Joe Vos. "If we can throw strikes, we make the plays and win games."

It's been quite a year for Duluth area baseball teams. Duluth Marshall won the state AA crown, Duluth Denfeld went to state in AAA, and now Lakeview is headed there next.

Known as the Tropics, the team earned their spot by winning Sub-State District 10. State is at multiple sites in Central Minnesota and Lakeview will face Rosetown Thursday in Watkins on day 1 of the double-elimination format. The Division 2 tournament is in Ely and the host team is in it. That tournament begins Friday.
