Duluth Huskies stave off Loggers to open second half with win

The Duluth Huskies opened the second half of their season Tuesday with a narrow 5-4 victory over the La Crosse Loggers at Wade Stadium. With the win the Huskies improve to 23-13 overall on the year.

The Huskies came out hot scoring three runs in the first inning, and then adding another in the second to lead 4-0. Duluth put up one more run in the bottom of the fourth to take the 5-0 advantage. La Crosse then two runs in the sixth and two in the ninth, but would fall short of the comeback 5-4.

Duluth was led by Ethan Surowiec with one run, four hits, and two RBI, and Tommy Farmer with three runs and one hit. Starting on the mound for the Huskies, Evan Rolison threw five strikeouts while allowing just four hits in 6.0 innings.

The Duluth Huskies also celebrated Navy Week on Tuesday, with special appearances from the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs, the U.S. Naval Drill Team, crew of the USS Minnesota alongside hometown sailors, all accompanied by the Liberty Call Brass Naval Band. Their Navy Week festivities continue Wednesday with their series finale against the Loggers, set for 6:35 p.m. at Wade Stadium.
