Ritsche, a Superior, Wis. native, comes from Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) (N.C.) where he was the head coach from 2010 up until the end of the last season. The university dropped the baseball program at the conclusion of the 2019 season for financial reasons.

During his time at WSSU he recorded 319 wins in nine seasons. Ritsche's teams won six conference championships and made six NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

At CSS, Ritsche played under the late John Baggs from 2001-2004, playing with former CSS baseball head coach Corey Kemp. Kemp coached the Saints for 10 seasons, resigning at the end of the 2019 season to return to teaching.
