Yellowjackets Hang on to Take Down St. Kate's

A late goal from St. Catherine's would tighten the match to a one goal lead for UWS, but the women's hockey team held on to win 3-2 Friday night in Superior.

St. Kate's scored the first goal of the match in the first period from Sophia Gorski. It wasn't until the second period that the next goal was scored. Molly Shelton put UWS on the board and tied the match 1-1. 

Tessa Jorde and CC Hayes each netted a goal putting UWS up 3-1. Laura Denchfield scored with less than two minutes remaining in the game for St. Kate's, but UWS held on to win 3-2. 

McKenzie Whalen made 16 saves in net for UWS, and Elizabeth Kubicek made 39 for the Wildcats.

UWS (6-1-1) and St. Kate's play game two of their series in St. Paul Saturday at 2 p.m.
