UMD Picked 1st in NCHC Preseason Poll

Duluth, Minn. - The back-to-back NCAA and defending National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Frozen Faceoff Champions are picked to lead the NCHC for the 2019-2020 season. Media members picked UMD for the top spot as the Bulldogs received23 out of a possible 28 first-place votes in the NCHC Preseason Poll.

UMD received 218 total points, 40 more than second-place Denver University (178 points) and 62 more than third-place Western Michigan University (156). The Pioneers received two first-place votes while the Broncos received the remaining three. The University of North Dakota (143) and St. Cloud State (138) round out the top five in the eight-team league.

The Bulldogs finished second in the NCHC regular season last year before rattling off eight-straight postseason victories to claim the conference tournament and national championship. The NCAA marked the second in as many years for UMD, which finished 29-11-2 on the year. The team was well-represented on Tuesday's release of the NCHC Preseason All-Conference team, with Bulldogs claiming 4-of-7 positions.

UMD opens its 2019-20 campaign playing host to the University of Alberta in an exhibition game at AMSOIL Arena on Saturday, Oct. 5.
