UMD Men & Women Topple Minot State in Home Doubleheader

The Bulldogs played host to the Beavers in a NSIC college basketball doubleheader Friday, where both the UMD men and women walked away with wins. 


The UMD women played first, defeating the Minot State Beavers 60-48 for their fifth straight win. Maesyn Thiessen led the Bulldogs in points with 13 and Katie Stark led in rebounds with nine. 

UMD led 27-16 at halftime and never trailed after the 3:35 mark of the first period to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC.

UMD (5-3) will close out a three-game homestand Saturday afternoon against the University of Mary. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. For the full recap click here.

The UMD men's game followed the women's. They defeated the Beavers 72-54 for their sixth win in a row. Brandon Myer led UMD in points with 23 and rebounds with 10. Alex Illikainen tallied 16 points and seven rebounds. 

UMD matched their longest win streak since the 2015-16 season when they also rattled off six straight victories between 12/19/15 to 1/10/16. 

The Bulldogs (7-1) will return to Romano Gymnasium Saturday evening to conclude a three-game homestand when they take on NSIC rival University of Mary. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. For the full recap click here.
