Big Ten is going to give fall football a shot after all. Less than five weeks after the conference announced it would push football and other fall sports to spring because of the pandemic, the conference changed course. The Big Ten plans to begin its season the weekend of Oct. 24 with an eight-game schedule for each team.

The Big Ten says its Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted unanimously to restart sports. Back in August, the conference voted to postpone fall sports.

The Big Ten decision was announced on the Big Ten Conference Twitter on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, the University of Wisconsin chancellor said that the decision regarding Big Ten football would remain on hold until questions about COVID-19 testing and tracing were answered. along with possible long-term heart issues related to the coronavirus.

"There were several main reasons for that," Chancellor Rebecca Blank said about the postponement. "One was that we were uncertain we could do the level of testing and contact tracing that we needed to keep athletes safe. Secondly, there was this growing evidence about heart-related myocarditis and that evidence was uncertain and it wasn't clear what it means and we wanted to know more. There were a few other minor reasons."
