It’s officially October, which not only marks the start of a month of scares, but also the month of breast cancer awareness.

This past Saturday, the University of Wisconsin Superior women’s soccer team who held a pink out game to support the fight against breast cancer

Senior midfielder Emma Street had this to say about the event, "It meant a lot to us because breast cancer did affect one of our teammates very close, and I wanted to really honor her mother because we didn’t get to last year because. It was in the spring and a shortened season, and we really didn’t get to do a cause game and I really wanted to do it".

Well UWS did exactly that honoring those effected, by sporting pink T-shirts in warmups, along with arm bands that showcased the iconic ribbon.

"We just kind of wanted to spread awareness for it initially, and we just got a turnout for it and allot of people registered with it because breast cancer is a very common thing, and its touch allot of people" exclaimed Emma.

The most touching thing however for the team was being able to connect with the community beyond just soccer.

"Its been really cool to be a part of something bigger than just ourselves and show up for one another. I think the community has been so good to us as a whole and supporting us in soccer and helping us fundraise for different events. Just to give us the opportunities that we have so its just really cool to give back to them," said Erin Schoborg a Senior Defender.

Raising funds to battle breast cancer, touching the community, winning soccer games, all of these great accomplishments would make anyone feel amazing inside.

"It feels good, its fun to be on that platform and raise awareness for such an important cause and something that means so much to everyone else, but again to just show up for our community," added Erin.

You can watch Emma, Erin and the Yellowjacket squad continue to fight for points on the field, this Friday against Northwestern.
