Andover Punches Program's First Ticket to State in Section 7AA Title Victory

The top-seeded Andover boy's hockey team punched the program's first trip to the State tournament Thursday night in a 8-1 victory over sixth seeded Elk River/Zimmerman Thursday night to claim the Section 7AA title. 


Garret Schifsky scored first for the Huskies early in the first period. Gunnar Thoreson scored to make it 2-0 Andover after the first period. 

In the second period, Captain Luke Kron netted two goals and Thoreson scored his second as Andover took the 8-0 lead.

Austen Humphrey put Elk River/Zimmerman on the board. Humphrey scored on a power-play with under four minutes remaining in the third period.

Andover earned the 8-1 victory advancing to the State tournament. 

The 2020 Minnesota State Boys Hockey tournament begins Wednesday, March 4th and runs through Saturday, March 7th. Tournament pairings and brackets are set to be released this weekend.
