Saturday the RivALZ hosted their Blondes vs Brunettes flag football event to raise awarness and money for Alzheimers. Over $17,000 was raised before the start of the match. The goal is to reach $25,000 in donations before the end of the year.

In Saturday's match the Blondes defeated the Brunettes 39-36. At the end of the day, donations were tallied at $18,982.35.

The Alzheimer's Association RivALZ is a volunteer driven team focused on friendly but fierce competition in the name of inspiring fundraising, awareness and action in the fight against Alzheimer's. The nationwide event arrived in the Twin Ports in 2018.

"There's nothing really like this in the area so, it's got that kind of edge on it. we are a group of really passionate people. We like football but we also really like to support the alzheimer's association's mission," said RivALZ committee chair Brittney Hanson.

Hanson also noted that anyone is welcome to join RivALZ, you do not have to be a blonde or brunette to join the team or coaching staff.
