Over 200 Elite Athletes to Compete in Grandma's Races Saturday

Duluth, Minn. - The William A Irvin 5K is Friday and both the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Full Marathon are on Saturday.

The half and full fall within the window to qualify for 2020 Olympic Trials. Because of that, there are over 200 of what are considered to be elite runners that will compete. That means some will be part of the citizen runner field.

"One of the coolest things about Grandma's Marathon is that you can still toe the line with some of the best runners in the world and you're all running the exact same race. And if you were to beat them, you would get the prize money, so you don't have to be an elite athlete" says Executive Director Shane Bauer.
