The 34th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is on Day 2 with the full 373-mile marathon is still going on, but the 120-mile mid-distance race wrapped up this morning at Trail Center with a champion crowned and it is a familiar name.

She's the mother of four, grandmother of five and at 62 years old Martha Schouweiler of Irma, Wisconsin has still got it. She claimed her fourth straight Beargrease Mid-Distance.

"When I first started, I couldn't have even dreamed of winning ever. I mean, I just looked at the winner and thought,' Ah, I mean I'll never win," said Schouweiler.

She says it took her about 10 years to win this race, but she couldn't have done it without her son Chad.

"You want to maintain more than go out like rocket and come in like a turtle. I just give her an idea of how fast she should probably go. I mean it's very easy to go too fast," says Chad Schouweiler.

Chad used to actually race in the Beargrease back in the day, but has since then left the duties up to his mom Martha. It seems their team is working out just fine.
