The two-day event began in April of 2005, following a fatal car accident of UW-Superior Legal Studies student Tony Gigliotti. Since then, many friends and family members of Tony have gathered every year to put on the tournament in his memory.

"I think our first year we had 47 or 48 (teams), and now we're up to 158," said volunteer coordinator Mike Raunio. "We've gotten a bit bigger over the years. It's great that we can do something to remember Tony, but also do something good for other people."

Kids ranging from third grade, to middle school, and high school students all participated. There was also an adult age group for teams that entered.

Since its inaugural tournament, the Tony G 3 on 3 has donated to many of are caritable organizations including: Hunger Takes no Holiday, northland Honor Flight, many UW-Superior Organizations, UW-Superior Foundation Scholarships, and many others.
