Up North: Giants Ridge Hosts Perfest Girls Night Out with Ladies Moonlight Snowshoe

Updated: February 26, 2020 11:17 PM

Getting outside in the winter with the girls. That's the goal of the Ladies' Moonlight Snowshoe Series at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minn.

Talk about the perfect girls night out. With temperatures in the 30's and the sun still shining, Mary Brascugli-Rosett gathered a group of about 30 ladies to prep them for a night out along the trails.

Giants Ridge has offered this program for the last three years, but Brascugli-Rosett says it's really taken off. She's already had to add more snowshoeing sessions and the resort has had to get more snowshoe rental equipment to keep up with the demand.

"What has happened with a lot of women, we all skied when were little and we went to college or something else and we couldn't afford to do it anymore. We moved away from home and we didn't ski anymore. Then, we got married and had kids and we still didn't ski anymore. Now, we're afraid to go skiing again," explained Brascugli-Rosett.

Her favorite part in offering this session is that it requires getting some fresh air, a little bit of exercise, but some much needed girl time.

"As girls do, we all get together we talk about our hair. We talk about our boyfriends, or our husbands and our families. It just a real camaraderie thing that we have going here," she added.

It was the perfect reason for Carrie Martinson, Sherry Scharber, and Jean Mackey, a group of high school friends from Babbitt to get together for a little reunion.

"It's really a great opportunity to meet up with friends again and get out in the Great White North," said Martinson.

"It's February in Minnesota, so we don't get much outdoor time when it's 22 below. Today it's 37 and it's nice to be outside and enjoying the fresh air and the wilderness," added Scharber.

All equipment from the trail pass to headlamps are provided. The hike takes about an hour and offers different levels of difficulty. Once the hike is over, social hour continues. Participants get a dinner voucher to the Burnt Onion Kitchen and Brews so they can continue the evening over some food and a glass of wine. The perfect night cap to every girls night.

"I could see this being a yearly thing for us now," said Mackey.
