Trump Campaign Official to Speak at 8th District GOP Dinner

A high-ranking Trump campaign official is headed to Duluth this weekend. Marc Lotter is the Director of Strategic Communications for the President's 2020 reelection bid.

He will speak at the Minnesota 8th congressional district GOP dinner on Saturday night, and he said he hopes to get people energized and engaged in the 2020 campaign.

"We're already investing in time, in resources, in putting money on the ground," Lotter said via Skype Wednesday morning.

He visited Duluth in November 2016 while he was campaigning with then-Gov. Mike Pence. He said he remembers a national reporter calling and asking why they were there considering Minnesota is such a consistently blue state.

"We explained to him what the data showed and that we thought there was a good chance," Lotter recalled, "and as we know, came oh so close, only 1.5% in 2016. And President Trump is absolutely committed that we put Minnesota in his column in 2020."

Lotter said that's why he and the rest of the "Keep America Great" team will pay close attention to Minnesota over the next 14 months.

"Minnesota understands that their economy is doing so well because of the things that President Trump is dong. Jobs are coming back, paychecks are going up," he said. "And because of the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, if we can get that passed, it means even more jobs, more exports."

The GOP dinner on Saturday is a private event.
