Radinovich had lost the 2018 election to Republican Pete Stauber by five percentage points in what had been seen as one of the most competitive House of Representatives races in the nation.  He announced his decision not to challenge Stauber next year in a Facebook post on Friday.

"While I believe that our country faces one of its most important elections in 2020 — one that will determine whether our nation embraces a return to governing in pursuit of our founding principles of justice, equality, and freedom on behalf of all Americans — my most immediate priorities are at home, with my fiancée and our family as we plan our future together," Radinovich wrote.

Radinovich said the 8th District deserves an "independent voice" and said he would work to help another candidate win the election.

Stauber replaced Democrat Rick Nolan, who had represented the district for six years.  Nolan had replaced one-term Republican Chip Cravaack, who defeated longime Democrat Jim Oberstar in 2010.

Earlier this year, Radinovich was the center of controversy when he was hired at Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation for a $100,000 job that was only posted for one day. The hiring spurred a change in state hiring rules, and Radinovich resigned in April.
