President Donald Trump has approved disaster declarations for Minnesota and Wisconsin due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The declarations open the possibility of federal assistance for state, tribal, and local governments as well as certain non-profit groups to help pay for emergency protective measures.  The Minnesota declaration was announced Tuesday afternoon, a day after the Wisconsin declaration.

Minnesota's entire Congressional delegation had requested the declaration earlier this week.

"This declaration is a step toward making sure those in need have access to critical resources. I will continue working to ensure that all Minnesotans, as well as our state’s health care facilities, small businesses, and farmers, have access to much needed relief," Sen. Amy Klobuchar said in a news release.
