DNR encourages hunters to have harvested deer tested for CWD

Opening day for firearms deer season in Wisconsin is right around the corner. The DNR hopes hunters consider taking their harvested deer to be tested for chronic waisting disease.

"We are doing health sampling across much of the North," explained DNR Wildlife Biologist Greg Kessler. "Especially Bayfield County, we are still asking that hunters voluntarily submit their heads for CWD testing. We have a number of sites available.

Most major towns have at least one self-service place.

The DNR is also conducting screening across the northern part of Wisconsin. This helps determine areas cwd has not reached yet and provide a better picture on where it is spreading.
