The Bon-Ton Stores is closing 42 locations nationwide under several brand names, including a total of nine stores in Wisconsin and one in Minnesota. The Superior Younker's is the only Northland location on the list.

The company said the stores will begin store closing sales on Thursday, and that the sales are expected to last 10 to 12 weeks.

Workers at the Superior store will have a chance to interview for available positions at stores that are remaining open, such as the Younker's in Duluth. A company spokesperson says about 33 people work at the Superior store.

Younker's is the last major anchor retailer in the Mariner Mall. The mall still has numerous smaller retailers, including a Sears Hometown store.

The closure comes two years after Target and Kmart closed their stores in Superior.
