Hammerbeck served in the Airforce where he spent his deployments in North Africa and Italy.

After his time in the military he stayed busy in the Northland being involved with the Superior Lions Club, starting Little League Baseball and Amature Hockey in Superior. He is also known to have been a skilled golfer, even sinking a hole in one.

And at Barker's Island Resort he was able to enjoy the one-century celebration while being surrounded by all of his loving family.

"Well it's very enjoyable," said Hammerbeck. "It's very few times where I get to see them all now at one time. And it's good I get to have a party like this at last."
