On Tuesday student athletes were helping the Salvation Army raise money by ringing bells at the Super One Foods in Superior.

UWS’s women's basketball team kicked off the day ringing bells and a number of other sports teams from the university are taking turns in ringing bells for the effort.

"It’s something we like to do and personally I love it. The community does so much for us. They come to our games and they do a lot for us so it’s nice to have a week to give back to them,” Taylor Kane, a UWS student athlete, said.

The student athletes will be at the Super One location until 8 p.m. gathering donations.

The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help fill the more than 1,000 remaining 2-hour shifts.

You can sign up to be a bell ringer online.
