University of Minnesota schools to move forward with mandating vaccines

University of Minnesota schools plan to move forward with mandating vaccines for students.

The announcement came in a letter from University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel Monday after the FDA formally approved the Pfizer vaccine.

According to the University, all students systemwide will receive an email with instructions on how to confirm their vaccination status in the coming days.

Students are asked to watch for the email and then quickly complete the form.

Faculty and staff will be asked to attest to their vaccination status beginning Tuesday.

According to the University, they will receive an email with instructions for completing an online form.

"As University health experts have communicated in a variety of ways, receiving a vaccine is a testament not only to your commitment to your own health, but the health and safety of your family, colleagues, and our entire University community," Gabel said in the letter.

A spokesperson for UMD said that University of Minnesota schools did not have any further information on consequences for not getting vaccinated at this time.
