UMD students are getting ready to take part in an international rocket competition, and on Saturday, the Rocketry Club tested their high-powered rocket motor to see how things are coming along.

The motor will power a 120 pound rocket. The rocket, designed and built entirely by UMD students, would have to deliver a payload of 8.8 pounds and hit altitudes of either 10,000 or 30,000 feet above ground level.

"It went pretty well. We're going to have to take it apart, and look on the inside to see how well the burn went, and then also go through our data, but by what we saw today it went pretty well," said UMD student Courtney Laine.

UMD has placed second in the international competition the last two years, so they are hoping the third time is the charm.
