The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says a neighbor noticed flames shooting from the house and called 911. Fire officials arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames.

The neighbor attempted to break the window because he heard a dog barking from inside, but had to back away because of the extreme heat, according to the sheriff's office.

No one was inside the house, but two dogs are believed to have died, according to the sheriff's office.

Fire officials say the house sustained significant damage, and is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
