So many non-profits are doing so much good work around the Northland. But who helps them succeed? The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits!

"Really, our goal, is to make sure the non-profits in Minnesota are the best," Annia Harala said. She's the NE MN Regional Coordinator for the council.

That means providing support by offering training, like a Leadership Summit and three workshops. Some were made possible by a grant from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. "This grant really helped us gather non-profit professionals across Northeast Minnesota, and invest in their leadership," Harala added.

No one knows better than non-profits how important grant writing is. So training may focus on how to better evaluate your own program when applying for those competitive grants. Plus, those summits and workshop provide an opportunity for networking, which can be priceless.

Cameron Kruger, CEO and President of the Duluth Children's Museum, said he's been utilizing the council for years. "We have grown and evolved in our community, due to a large support system that exists for non-profits, to really thrive here."

The museum has seen a great summer, with over 1000 people attending their Bubble Festival. And they have a new exhibit right now. There are many other non-profits that are part of the council, including CHUM, Grand Marais Art Colony, and Animal Allies.

All places that make their community a better place to live.

The Touchstone Awards Luncheon is coming up on October 7th at the DECC.
