Three dogs and two cats died of smoke inhalation in a house fire on Grand Avenue in Superior Friday. Fortunately, everyone else was able to make it out safely and no other injuries were reported.

The Superior Fire Department was called to the fire around 7:15 p.m. They were on scene for five hours working to extinguish the flames.

During this time, the public was asked to avoid the area of 6th Street and Grand Avenue.

Mayo Ambulance, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Superior Police Department, and Superior Water, Light & Power assisted fire fighters.

According to fire fighters, the home sustained roughly $70,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
