Emergency responders were called to the area near the Spirit Lake Marina around 5 p.m. Duluth Fire Captain Eric Thompson said the sudden change in weather conditions played a role in the incident.

"Looks like the temperature dropped about 10 degrees and the wind kicked up and there was a number of canoers up on the lake and it capsized one," Capt. Thompson said. "A couple of people dropped in and a passerby was able to get them back to the dock."

Capt. Thompson said everyone was accounted for and no injures were reported. He said the people rescued were safe, but cold.
