Around 150 Spooner and Ashland-based National Guardsmen from the 829th Engineer Company returned home after spending nearly a year in the Middle East.

Members of the community lined up across Highway 63 to welcome the soldiers home as the soldiers, on buses, were escorted to their local armory by Spooner Police and Fire District where they were reunited with their family and loved ones.

The company, part of the 724th Engineer Battalion/Wisconsin National Guard, deployed last October for construction missions across Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.

They returned stateside to Fort Bliss, Texas for debriefing over Labor Day weekend.
