Shoppers Love Second Small Business Saturday

Businesses were bustling on Saturday as the second Small Business Saturday kicked off.

“Small business Saturday is all about local businesses. It’s all about the little guy. It’s not about shopping at the malls. It’s about patronizing our neighbors, our friends so yeah, that’s why we’re here,” Claire Kirch, shopper said.

Last Saturday, weather hindered the original Small Business Saturday and shoppers said they were thankful organizers and local businesses decided to host a second one.

“I especially like coming down downtown and seeing stores that are open during the year, but you get a chance to visit the small ones and see the decorations. They have special things out, special deals going and I really like to support small businesses especially in the downtown area and canal park,” Gerri Williams, shopper said.

Shoppers also said that they enjoy shopping local because they are able to get unique, one-of-a-kind things that can’t be found online or in a mall.

“You can find things that are just very local and some of the things are things with local humor—things that only the people who live here will kind of understand and appreciate,” Williams said.

Many businesses around Duluth and Superior offered their original deals for a second weekend and shoppers made the most of picking up Christmas gifts as the holiday approaches fast.
