A Chisholm woman faces a misdemeanor domestic assault charge. Charlotte Tomassoni, 69, is married to state senator Dave Tomassoni.

According to online court records, she pleaded not guilty to the charge when she was in court on Monday morning.

The police report said officers responded Sunday evening. The report said the incident stemmed from defendant being upset about family dynamics.

Senator Tomassoni had gone down to the basement. She allegedly followed him and then hit him in the chest with a broom handle several times.

He also alleged that she threatened to stab him if he came upstairs.

Officers put in their reports that the defendant appeared intoxicated.

The report said that the senator told officers that his wife does threaten or intimidate him on a daily basis, but this was the first time he was concerned for his safety. Senator Tomassoni was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year.

Charlotte Tomassoni is expected to be in court again next month. As of Monday afternoon, she is no longer in the jail.
