A major announcement from Essentia Health on Thursday: they have purchased a second anchor space at the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth, the former Sears store.

In a press statement, Essentia said several options are being considered for developing the property. The Sears store closed in 2018.

The Sears property and adjacent parking areas are owned separately from the main mall, which is owned by Simon.

St. Louis County property tax records show the 109,000-square-foot store was built in 1986.  The property's assessed value is $3.6 million, about half for the building and half for the land.

Essentia did not say how much it paid for the property.

Last fall, Essentia opened their Center for Personal Fitness in the former Younkers space, which is also separately-owned from the main portion of the mall. Essentia says membership has increased since that opening.

Meanwhile, they are planning to move additional services into the open space on the second floor of the former Younkers store, including therapy services, occupational medicine and select retail services.
