"Santa Paws" Fundraiser for Douglas County Animal Shelter

Before he made his appearance at Bentleyville on Saturday, Santa got to spend some time with some furry friends and their families in Superior.

This was at the annual "Santa Paws" fundraiser for the Humane Society of Douglas County. A volunteer photographer helped take holiday photos for animals and their families. The humane society does this to make it easier for families to get these photos for monetary donations that go towards helping the organization.

"It's hard to stand in line and wait for Santa photos and all of that," said Cheri Fitch, Fundraising and Event Coordinator for the HSDC. "So you can come and do that here. They don't typically want you to bring your pet into the mall with Santa, so this way you can get your whole family in."

For pets that made it onto Santa's nice list this year, many gifts were also sold at the event along with other treats as well. All proceeds go to the HSDC Animal Shelter to help provide medical care, food, and housing for pets looking for forever homes.

The Humane Society will also take other donations to help with their program and are always looking for volunteers to help at events such as this.
