Tanya Hoyt knows how to pack up. She can maximize space in a small box, to make sure deployed soldiers know they are thought of.
"The point of the box is to bring a smile. It's filled with things from home, like snacks and higher quality hygiene items," Hoyt told us.
She showed us one of the boxes that's heading out soon. It was filled with candy, tissues, body powder, hydration sticks, magazines, instant creamer, and even Girl Scout cookies! "We had a troop donate boxes," she said.
Placed on top, is a note that explains who the box is from. Local kids are decorating the outside, or making artwork for the inside.
The group effort Operation 120 was born late last year, when she learned of a big deployment. She created a Facebook group, and people jumped on board with her.
Their initial goal was to send 60 boxes. Then they crushed that goal, and hit 120. Now, they're at 165 for the next year, and are growing.
It costs $50 to sponsor the box, which includes shipping. You can choose to sponsor one month, or more.
You can collect donations, sponsor a box, or offer to help pack them up.
"Without my community raising donations and sponsoring boxes, we wouldn't have a project. I'm extra thankful for them. And we wouldn't have a project at all without the brave men and women who are serving our country," Hoyt said.
