Seventeen rail cars derailed northwest of Duluth on Thursday morning, spilling their load of taconite.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says the CN Railroad reported the derailment in Alborn Township at about 7:30 a.m.  There were no injuries, and no roadways were blocked by the derailed cars.

The derailment was contained to railroad property and no other property damage was reported.

Besides the sheriff's office, CN Railroad Police also responded to the scene.
