Pro-choice Activists Hold Rally in Duluth

Updated: May 25, 2019 09:16 PM

Pro-choice activists continued their fight against anti-abortion laws in Duluth Saturday.

A rally was held at the Minnesota Power Plaza on West Michigan Street. Dozens of people lined the streets to protest measures recently passed in several states across the country.

"I know there were rallies last weekend down in the (Twin) cities and Washington," Pro-choice activist Betsy West-Sherman said, "but for Duluth, we matter and our voices matter. A woman's right to govern her own body is important."

On Friday, Republican Governor Mike Parson of Missouri signed a bill that bans abortions on or beyond eight weeks. That legislation includes an exception for medical emergencies, but not for cases of rape and incest. Alabama's Governor, Kay Ivey, signed a similar bill earlier this month.
