Dentist for Minnesota Wild dies in Lake Co. plane crash

A Twin Cities-area man died when the small plane he was flying crashed into White Iron lake near Ely late Thursday evening.

Lake County has identified him as Dr. Kyle Edlund, of Woodbury Dental Care. He was the only person on board. The website for his practice says he was one of the team dentists for the Minnesota Wild and the St. Paul Saints. 

The sheriff's office said they were called out around 11 p.m. to the crash. They said Edlund was last seen at his hotel in Ely around 10:15pm, flew out soon after, heading towards the Grand Marais/Cook County Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the circumstances of the crash are unknown. The accident is under investigation.

St. Louis County, Lake County Rescue Squad, Morse-Fall Lake and Ely ambulance assisted at the scene.
