The Pine County Sheriff's Office said a deputy on patrol was involved in an accident around 12:41 a.m. Tuesday.

According to authorities, Deputy Boston Gilderman was traveling south on Main St. from 3rd Ave. South when a pickup truck rear-ended the squad car at a high rate of speed.

The sheriff's office said the squad car was pushed from Main St. onto the property of the First Presbyterian Church.

The driver of the truck was said to be combative and had to be restrained by officers who responded to the scene, according to the report.

Both Gilderman and the driver of the pickup truck were injured.  Gilderman was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released.  The driver was transported to a hospital in the Twin Cities.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating.
