The city of Buhl is looking at developing a portion of Burton Park for more housing. There will be room for 10 homes on the old ball fields.
Mayor John Klarich told us that it is an area that is zoned residential. And they have grants to help develop this spot.
"We have real estate companies telling us that there are waiting lists for people who want to move to Buhl, and build in Buhl. This could add $23,000 a year to the tax base, once the homes are built," Klarich said.
But not everyone is on board. Citizens are bringing a petition to the council on Tuesday night, asking for this to be stopped, or put on the ballot. One of them is former city councilor Shari Swanson. She said they have 268 signatures.
"The council wanted to do this to expand the tax base, which I understand. But 10 houses don't justify the loss of green space in the community, to me. You can't get it back," she told us. She said the city could develop other areas.
The city said that the plan is to get the lots ready this fall, for sale and building in the spring.
