Susan Laine has begun a new feel-good effort in Ely. She and some friends have launched Operation Signs of Love, to show support to the fire crews fighting the Greenwood Fire.
The first box of signs is on its way to Finland. Laine hopes to send one a week.
Originally, they had wanted to send sandwiches. But they learned signs were what were needed instead.
"We had poster parties, and we made as many posters as we could. We use a lot of images from the cakes I've made in the past," Laine said. She's made over 220 cakes thanking people for acts of kindness during the pandemic. Each one says you're LovELY.
Some of the signs are staying in town, in windows and in yards.
And they aren't done yet. On Wednesday, they started putting together treat bags for firefighters who end up staying in the hotels. They collected donations from around town.
"We're doing what we can to send signs of love, to let those firefighters and entire crew that Ely loves them, and we support them," Laine added.
