Officer-Involved Shooting in Itasca County

The Itasca County Sheriff's office released a statement Tuesday saying that there was an officer-involved shooting in the southern part of the county on Sunday evening.

According to the statement, deputies responded to a domestic assault call on Walker Road near Hill City around 5:30 p.m.

Deputies attempted to make contact. And at one point, they said the suspect fired his weapon. Deputies also fired their weapons.

The suspect sustained injuries and is being treated at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. 

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting incident, while the sheriff's office is investigating the domestic assault complaint.

According to the sheriff's office, the BCA will release more information once the initial interviews are complete.
