First responders were called to McQuade Road shortly before 7 p.m. on the report of a train that had hit a car.

Authorities say the vehicle, driven by a 67-year-old man from Duluth was hit on its side. The driver suffered "substantial injuries" and was taken to a local hospital. His current condition is not known.

Ken Buehler, General Manager of the North Shore Scenic Railroad, says there were about 115 passengers on the train; 67 on the Pizza Train and 58 on the Murder Mystery Train. Buehler says none of them were injured.

Buehler says the train deployed its emergency brake before hitting the car.
