A group of concerned community members gathered near a pasture in Wrenshall Sunday to bring awareness on a man who they say allegedly has 60 plus neglected horses in his property.

The organizer of the protest says this has been going on for years and that the horses are malnourished and live in horrible conditions. People were holding signs along the road that read "Help Hungry Horses" and '"Justice for Wrenshall Horses."

"We came together to peacefully protest the rights for these horses. They don't have a voice and we are here to be their voice. It has been 20 plus years and nothing has been done,” Kyleen Pedersen, the organizer of the protest, said.

An online petition with over 1,000 signatures has been signed regarding the horses. Pedersen says the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Humane Society have been investigating the alleged animal abuse.

An officer with the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office told WDIO since it’s an open investigation, they can’t comment further on the allegations.
