Prosecutors have filed a formal charge against a man accused of shooting a friend early Saturday morning in his southern St. Louis County home.

Forty-four-year-old Thomas Allen Micklewright was charged with second-degree murder on Thursday.  According to a criminal complaint, Micklewright and his wife had been hosting 65-year-old James Arthur Couture and his wife at their home on Brevator Road in Brevator Township, which is on the Fond du Lac Reservation.

The complaint says that Mickelwright's wife called 911 at about 5 a.m. and that Micklewright then spoke to the dispatcher, allegedly admitting that he shot Couture.  Micklewright allegedly told the dispatcher that he intentionally shot the victim with a pistol but did not articulate the reason for the shooting.

Law enforcement authorities found Couture dead in Micklewright's kitchen.  A medical examiner ruled his death to be a homicide.

The complaint says both couples had been consuming alcohol prior to the shooting.  A breath test conducted on Mickelson at 11 a.m., six hours after the 911 call, found a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20.

According to online court records, Mickelwright made his initial court appearance on Thursday and bail was set at $125,000.  Another hearing in the case is set for Dec. 3.
