This January, she'll get to deliver a semi truck full of them to disabled veterans in St. Croix, Minnesota.

"They're getting Queen Tempurpedics, and they're also getting Queen adjustable bases," Maki said.

The donation is valued at $128,000, she said.

She hopes if there are any volunteers who might be willing to make the trip, they'll join her to help unload.

Maki is also preparing for her Giving Trees to go up around the Twin Ports and the surrounding area. Gifts collected under the trees will go to adults in nursing and group homes and kids.

"It makes people feel better to have somebody that cares about them," she said. "If nobody in this world cared for others, it would be pretty sad."

To help with any of her projects, she can be reached at or at (218) 213-5399.
