A group of UMD students and alum are performing in a concert that will benefit the family of Mason Branstrator. It's called Mobilize Musicians.
Mason, a junior at Duluth East, is recovering from a spinal cord injury at Craig Hospital in Denver.
His mother, Stacy Crawford, is an advisor for UMD's Fine Arts Department. And her former students wanted to make sure she felt supported during this time. "They picked up and went right out there, and they are far away from home. Stacy's students really care about her. A friend said it best. When we were here at UMD, she was like family. We could go to her for anything," explained Rachael Nunemacher.
She's a musician and songwriter who is putting the concert together. About 30 people will be featured in a variety of songs. "I asked friends to perform something from the heart. Everyone has their own unique style. There's a lot of original songs, a jazz combo, a family band, and and some musical theater covers."
Nunemacher added that it helped her feel more connected with her peers, since she hasn't seen many of them in a year.
The concert link will be available this Friday, at 7pm. She's asking for a donation of $5. And so far, has raised more than $1500!
