"It brings in money to help support local law enforcement and families in times of need whether they’re injured on duty or off duty and falling on a hard time,” Jen Mangan, the secretary for the FOP Lake Superior Lodge 9, said.

The fundraiser also supports families of any officer who is killed in line of duty.

Passion and dedication to give back to police officers and their families going through difficult moments in their life is the reason why community members said they support the annual fundraiser.

"Whether police are sick or are going through family issues, the support the FOP gives to officers in our community is outstanding,” Roger Smith, an event attendee, said.

The fundraiser featured a delicious pizza and pasta buffet and offered fun games for folks to enjoy. It also had a raffle board with prizes like a 55 inch TV and a silent auction.

The event also featured an egg smash, photo booth, and a liquor and gun raffle.

"We had a fantastic meal with family and now we are looking at auction items and going to try some of the games,” Smith said.

Law enforcement from the area came out to the fundraiser as well. They understand more than anyone what their colleagues go through on the job.

"To see everyone here and to know that we have the community supporting us, it feels really good and to be working and come and see this, it definitely makes my day,” Spencer Pitzel, an officer with the Duluth Police Department, said.

"We back the blue. Our family is a blue family,” Vickie Smith, an event attendee, said.

The fundraiser offered lots of fun options to help raise money and donate for the cause.

The organizers of the event have seen the direct impact this has had in the lives of police officers.

"They don’t expect it. They contacted us and said they literally didn't know how they were going to pay their bills because they were on such hard times,” Mangan said.

The fundraiser is a way of showing appreciation to local police who make the ultimate sacrifice every day to keep the community safe.

"They're very humble and no one wants to ask for help. That’s the hard thing,” Mangan said. "It’s one less thing that their family has to worry about and how we can help out and it’s just the appreciation we see from them.”

Lodge 9 also uses the money raised form the event for other community outreach programs such as assisting with honor guard uniforms, K-9 donations, and educational and training opportunities.

Over $13,000 was raised at the fundraiser.
