RICE LAKE, Wis. (AP) - Authorities say a toddler who went missing in northwestern Wisconsin has been found dead.


Rice Lake Police say their officers were dispatched to a residence just after 9:30 Sunday night on the report of a missing child. The caller reported the front door of the home was open and the child could have been missing for up to a half hour.

Officers began their search for the child with Fire Department crews, emergency personnel, and citizens. K9 units and a drone were used in rescue efforts.

The child was located in the Red Cedar River around 10:55 Sunday night using a thermal imaging tool. The child was unresponsive and was rushed to a hospital, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.
