At the peak, more than 2,000 of Minnesota Power customers were in the dark.

Minnesota Power says the outages were caused by some downed lines. "The Colbyville substation locked out due to trees coming down onto wires," Kelley Eldien with Minnesota Power said. The substation is near the Ridgeview area of Lakeside and Lester Park.

Extra crews were called to help restore power. The power outages began shortly after 6 p.m. and were restored before 10 p.m.

Several areas affected included Lakewood Township, Lakeside, and Woodland neighborhoods.

A Lakeside resident told WDIO News he heard loud bangs before losing power.
